Knee Pain Physical Therapy in Hillsboro, OR
Move with confidence again, without letting knee pain control your activity
Knee pain is one of the most common issues affecting runners, lifters, athletes, and active adults. Whether symptoms started gradually or after a specific event, such as a workplace injury or auto accident, knee discomfort can make everyday movements, like squatting, climbing stairs, running, or even walking, frustrating.
At Tualatin Valley Physical Therapy, we help patients throughout Hillsboro and the Tualatin Valley improve mobility, amplify strength, restore proper motor patterns, and rebuild movement confidence.
Our focus is not just symptom relief, but long-term resilience.
Common Knee Conditions We Treat
We frequently help patients experiencing:
Runner’s knee (patellofemoral pain)
Tendon irritation (patellar/quad tendon)
Meniscus-related pain

Many knee problems are related to:
✔ Load tolerance
✔ Strength imbalance

✔ Mobility restrictions
Not simply “wear and tear.”
How Physical Therapy Helps
Effective knee rehab focuses on identifying why symptoms developed.
Your treatment plan may include:
Strength and asymmetry assessment
Movement analysis
Mobility evaluation
Load tolerance testing
Progressive strengthening
Tendon capacity loading
Stability and control training
Gait or running mechanics (if applicable)
Flare-up management strategies
Our goal is to help your knee tolerate:
✔ Running
✔ Lifting
✔ Stairs
✔ Training
✔ Daily movement
Safely and confidently.
Why Knee Symptoms Often Persist
Many patients try rest, braces, injections, or passive treatments, yet symptoms return.
Knees typically improve when:
✔ Strength capacity improves
✔ Load is progressed gradually
✔ Movement confidence returns
✔ Mechanics become efficient
✔ Tolerance builds over time
This is where targeted PT makes the difference.

Knee Pain FAQs
-
Yes! Physical therapy addresses strength deficits, load tolerance, mobility limitations, and movement mechanics that commonly contribute to knee pain.
-
Not always. At TVPT, we don’t want you to avoid activity, and we typically won’t tell you that you can never “run/train” again. Properly modified training is often what is most beneficial alongside your rehab program.
-
Many cases are related to load management, poor motor control of the hips and/or ankles, strength deficits, tendon irritation, or patellofemoral stress rather than structural damage, unless there is direct trauma (e.g., car accident).
-
Most cases of knee injuries do not require imaging, as imaging findings often do not correlate with symptoms. Clinical assessment is often sufficient. We screen for red flags and refer if needed.
-
Yes, many knee conditions respond very well to conservative rehab without the need for injections that may provide short-term relief by reducing inflammation, but don’t address the root cause(s), as well as expensive imaging and surgery.
-
Many patients notice improvement within 4–6 visits with continued progress over time. Each rehab plan is patient-specific.
-
Yes! Strength progressions, proper motor patterns, stability work, and load tolerance work are highly effective.
-
Absolutely! Load tolerance and movement mechanics are core components of our rehabilitation programs.
